As if choosing the right person to support you isn’t bewildering enough, then I come along and talk about integrating coaching and therapy.
I get it. Finding the right person to begin this journey of self-discovery and transformation can feel confusing and overwhelming. There are so many acronyms, so many practitioners out there – each offering something different. How to choose?
Firstly, let me breakdown my approach for you.
I’ve had therapy and I’ve had coaching. I appreciate both, however they both offer something a bit different. Coaching is all about moving forward; setting a goal and working towards it. Therapy is often about looking back; understanding where things come from and how they impact us today. In my opinion, we need both, because change is hard. If it was easy, you would have done it already. A helpful way of thinking about it is this: you wouldn't build a house without checking that the foundations are solid first, so in our time together we both design and build the house, but not before we’re confident the foundations will support your ambitions.
